Following our 30th conference Artivism: The Art of Subverting Power we invite you to join us on August 30 at 8pm for the screening of We’re All Going To Die, a documentary film by Ben Knight, hosted by ACUD MACHT NEU. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film director, Extinction Rebellion environmental activist Mia Sommer, climate psychologist Katharina Simons, and will be moderated by Veronika Nad.

The main protagonist of the documentary “We are all going to die” Ben Knight, is a journalist afflicted by the encroaching crises he writes about. For his documentary, he travels from Berlin to London to Kansas to Norway, and then to the capital of all loss, the Chicxulub crater in Mexico, learning from those preparing for social and ecological collapse. Call them preppers, doomers, or bunker-dwellers, the collapse community turns out to be bigger than he thinks.

After the screening, we will be discussing challenges, strategies of adaptation and perspectives on dealing with the end of civilization as we know it - as well as what helps to make it all more bearable.

Because things are getting personal: The climate crisis is here, and we are being asked to cope. But how? Heatwaves, droughts and floods, mass extinction and mass migration, the looming perspective of ultimate social collapse - enough to scare us out of our minds. Do you fight, take flight, or freeze? How do you stay sane in the face of impending doom?

"Ben takes us by the hand and leads us into some of the rabbit holes of apocalypse."

Ben Knight is a journalist in Berlin who has written for Deutsche Welle, the Guardian, the New Statesman, Prospect, der Freitag, and others. His articles have covered the small German town that armed the world, zoophilia in western Germany, pagan cults in eastern Germany, illegal fishing in Sierra Leone, and other experiences up to and including colonic irrigation.

Katharina Simons studied Psychology and Public Health in Berlin and is a trained psychotherapist working in her private praxis in Berlin Neukölln. Realizing the depth of the climate crisis not before late 2019, after years of living the comfortable life of being mainly interested in social justice and leaving ecological topics to others, she decided to join the German activist group “Psychologists for Future” and is organized with them since. Her activism include offering counseling for activists, giving workshops on sustainable activism and informing colleagues about the severity of the situation in order to foster political action among this group.

Extinction Rebellion is a loosely networked, decentralised, international grassroots movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction and minimise the risk of social collapse. Established in 2018, supporters advocate for climate justice and globally working towards a planet that remains inhabitable for future generations.

Veronika Nad is an anthropologist and activist, and currently works with the Disruption Network Lab. Her work is focused on advancing freedom of expression, transparency, accountability and whistleblower rights. She is trying to meet the end in with love and dignity.
